Uranus in Taurus
Uranus is often referred to as “The Awakener” and is associated with sudden changes and flashes of insight. Known for its cataclysmic qualities, it combines magnetic and electrical elements, producing abrupt effects. While it can act in malefic ways, like lighting striking, it is considered much less malefic than Mars. Qualities associated with Uranus include inventiveness, originality, waywardness, independence, and abruptness. In modern astrology, it is serves as co-ruler of Aquarius, alongside Saturn.
The Uranus Cycle
As a generational planet, Uranus remains in each sign for about seven years, taking 84 years to cycle through all twelve zodiac signs. Currently, Uranus has been in Taurus since March 6, 2019, and will remain there until July 7, 2025. Afterward, it will move into Gemini, only to retrograde back into Taurus from November 7, 2025, to April 25, 2026, to address unfinished business.
The last time Uranus transited Taurus was from 1934 to 1942, a period marked by the Great Depression, during which significant financial reforms, including the New Deal, were initiated. Like Saturn and Mars, Uranus is often classified as a malefic planet. However, its conjunctions and parallels create the most trouble for those who cling to outdated modes and conventions. Uranus is a force that calls for breaking free from the old to make way for progress and innovation. It awakens and stimulates us so that we can rise into broader and more advanced states of consciousness.
Uranus as the Revolutionary
Astrologer C.Q. Libra, in his book Astrology: Its Techniques and Ethics, describes Uranus as the pioneer and reformer, noting that those who embrace this spirit of progress will come to recognize Uranus not as a malefic force, but as a benific one. Uranus symbolizes the transition to a higher phase of consciousness and, by extension, a higher dimension. This transition brings the revelation of a world that exists in more dimensions than the three of the physical world, as expressed in the phrase “New life goes then along new paths.”
The symbol for Uranus is often interpreted as resembling the letter H taken from the discoverer’s last name Hershel. It can also be seen as a merging of the symbols for Mars and the Sun. As author Porwall explains in Western Astrology, the symbol reflects a circle of spirit combined with a dominant cross of matter, creating an antenna that achieves insight through use of matter. It also shows drive to actualize the divine seed of potential.
Uranus in Taurus Shakes the Earth
In Esoteric Psychology Alice Bailey explains the connection between Uranus and Taurus through the symbolism of the mineral kingdom. She notes that Taurus governs the mineral kingdom and highlights the symbolic relationship between the “eye” of the Bull, the third eye, and the light in the head—concepts tied to higher consciousness. The “diamond eye,” which represents the consciousness of the Buddha, is also invoked in this context.
In Western Astrology, Uranus in Taurus is said to signify creativity, sexual magnetism, charm, and innovation. When retrograde (as it is until January 30, 2025, and again from September 6, 2025 to February 4, 2026) it indicates a constant fluctuation in values and potential financial instability. While under this influence, we may need to overcome a fear of responsibility and dedicate ourselves to aligning with the truths revealed by the universe.
Uranus as the Serpent
Evangeline Lily in Astrology, Your Place Among the Stars, describes Uranus as embodying volcanic fire—a planet of strange, revolutionary, and often mysterious qualities. She asserts that Uranus is connected to the energy of genius and the serpent power that lies coiled at the base of the spine like a serpent, ready to either illuminate the individual or lead them to ruin. Genius, she asserts, may break, but it will not bend.
Lily also attributes beneficial qualities to Uranus in Taurus. She states that Uranus is particularly sympathetic to the fixed signs—Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius. She notes that, in Egyptian symbolism, Uranus is represented by the Royal Uraeus Serpent, slow to act and yet unstoppable once set into motion. This connection suggests that, while Uranus may seem terrifying to the conventional mind, its power is ultimately constructive when channeled the right way. She states that Taurus is “highly favorable for Uranus” as his great energy is set to honest constructive work.
Taurus, which is associated with stability, security, durability, endurance, and material possession, is particularly well-suited the transformative energy of Uranus. This transit may be a harbinger of significant financial innovations and shifts in underlying cultural beliefs and values, especially concerning money and wealth. While this transit may bring change to the financial system, the innate stability of Taurus may make it slow to adapt.
